Mr. Hoang Son, Deputy CEO of Viettel Group, said that the 5G devices that Viettel is testing have reached speeds of 500 Mbps and by the end of this year will reach 1 Gbps.
Referring to this matter, Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Deputy CEO of Viettel said that Viettel has cooperated with suppliers to research and produce 5G devices by itself. 5G is not only a base station but also a core network, terminal equipment. Viettel has set up a 5G technology research and development team since 2015, aiming to test 5G station network in 2020 and ready to commercialize products by 2021. Viettel's own equipment, Mr. Hoang Son, Deputy CEO of Viettel Group, said Viettel is testing 5G equipment in Hanoi, the initial results are very positive. The 5G devices that Viettel is testing have reached speeds of 500 Mbps and by the end of this year will reach 1 Gbps.
The deployment of 5G in Vietnam is advantageous when businesses have actively produced many information equipment and telecommunications infrastructure, while we had to go before, depending on overseas frequency equipment manufacturers. Currently, 5 companies have successfully produced network equipment for 5G including Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung and ZTE. Viettel will be the 6th supplier to produce this device. Among the above-mentioned suppliers, only Viettel is both a telecommunications operator and a network equipment manufacturer.
Earlier, on January 17, 2020, Viettel made the first 5G call on Viettel devices manufactured in Hoa Lac. Mr Phan Xuan Dung, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, said that Vietnam has made the impossible possible, from a country that always follows and learns from big countries like Korea, Singapore ... to join the countries that create technology branded "Make in Vietnam".
Also according to Mr. Phan Xuan Dung, to do that, we have turned irregularities into regularities. As with Viettel, this unit does not follow the normal way but in a new way because of the demand to develop, to go ahead, it has to go through challenges and failures.
Creating a product is difficult but made, there must be a user, a market. As for Viettel's proposal to encourage businesses to use telecommunications products manufactured in Vietnam, according to Mr. Dung, this is not mandatory for businesses, communities and people to use products that do not meet demand. High-tech products manufactured by Vietnam are not inferior to other brands in the world. “However, why Vietnamese products still do not have many users? Because, if there is no market, no products can develop, especially for science and technology, high-tech products” Mr. Dung said.
According to information from the Ministry of Information and Communications, by October 2020, Vietnam will conduct 5G trade with 100% of domestic equipment. The first video call using 5G connection line on gNodeB transceiver, which Viettel researched and produced by itself, was successfully implemented to help Vietnam officially master 5G network technology.
The mastery of 5G equipment is of national strategic significance and Vietnam is one of the few countries that can produce 5G equipment. The Ministry of Information and Communications will facilitate and focus on directing businesses to implement the mission of investing in research and production of 5G devices towards the goal of commercializing 5G products in 2020. Thus, the mobile communication network 5G in Vietnam is deployed in commerce with the first countries in the world. From now on, Vietnam is proactively leading the world in terms of technology, as well as developing a roadmap and a plan to eliminate 2G mobile technology from 2022. At the same time, the Ministry will conduct auctions, tape licensing 2.6 GHz mobile communication frequency to improve the network quality and speed of mobile communication services.
